Yorkshire Energy Services has been selected by the Green Deal Skills Alliance (GDSA) as one of six ‘Green Deal skills’ exemplars. Made up of the three skills councils, AssetSkills, CITB-ConstructionSkills and SummitSkills, the GDSA set out to highlight best practice in the sector, demonstrating how organisations can train and prepare their workforce for the Green Deal making sure that there are no skills shortages when Green Deal and ECO roll out.
This accolade comes in response to the workforce development plan submitted by Yorkshire Energy Services. This details the company’s preparations for the Government’s forthcoming home energy efficiency scheme; their strategic approach being to develop supply chain opportunities for local small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to compete on an equal footing with larger contractors and delivery agents.
Yorkshire Energy Services’ subsidiary company, YES Projects will be responsible for delivering these objectives. Working with private homeowners, landlords and small businesses YES Projects aims to positively influence the growth of the green sector at a local level and to provide access to the Green Deal for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) at a national level.
Steve Housden, CITB-ConstructionSkills Sector Strategy Manager, said: “The Green Deal is expected to result in thousands of new jobs in the construction sector. It is therefore vital that SME firms, as well as larger contractors, prepare now and develop new skills to ensure they avoid losing out. With the support and expertise of companies like Yorkshire Energy Services we hope we can get more construction contractors thinking about the challenges and opportunities presented by green building and technologies.”
Emma Kovaleski, Manager to the CEO’s Office at Yorkshire Energy Services, said: “We are extremely proud to have been asked by the GDSA to become a Green Deal exemplar, helping to grow green skills in the workforce. By sharing our knowledge with the wider sector, we hope companies of all sizes will see the importance of developing this area of their work. By working closely with the other exemplar organisations, as well as the GDSA, we hope to play a major role in supporting the development of best practice guidance, which will help to accelerate the development of green skills for the future.”
