SSE Fronts Energy Price Hike

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Cavity Wall InstallerThe UK’s second largest energy supplier, SSE plans to increase its rates by 9% in October 2012. Householders from across the country fear the domino effect as other major utilities review their tariffs.

SSE’s charge will add a further £8.53 a month to the average customer’s direct debit. If the rest of the ‘big six’ energy suppliers follow suite, thousands of families will feel the squeeze in time for yet another cold winter.

It’s no surprise that rising energy costs directly effects England’s most vulnerable. There are still thousands of householders living in the grips of fuel poverty and making critical sacrifices as they strive to keep warm in their homes.

Having worked within a multitude of fuel poor communities, energy efficiency consultancy, YES Projects is doing everything it can to help vulnerable householders combat rising fuel costs. In March 2011 the company launched a national free home insulation scheme, available to all homeowners and private renting tenants in England (subject to survey). Already hundreds of residents have benefited from the scheme and have reduced their energy usage.

ECO Funding could help hundreds of low income households

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Sitting under the umbrella of Green Deal is another funding stream called ECO, the Energy Company Obligation.

ECO will also be launched in October 2012 and collates funds from all major energy suppliers. This money will be filtered into energy conservation projects for some of the UKs poorest communities. Similar to CERT and CESP initiatives, ECO will help the most vulnerable residents benefit from an array of energy efficiency measures with no costs to the recipients.

Energy companies are required to provide an estimated £1.3bn a year to supplement energy efficiency installations throughout the UK and at least £540m to fund home improvements for the most vulnerable householders.

Resents that receive certain qualifying benefits will be able to apply for free services including installations for hard to treat properties. Services such as external wall insulation are likely to be in high demand following the launch of ECO.

YES Projects (the delivery subsidiary for Yorkshire Energy Services – one of the Governments pioneer Green Deal Providers) are keen to establish ECO funded schemes across the country. The organisation is working in partnership with PB Energy Solutions to help connect to Green Deal accredited installers and create a national network to fulfil both ECO and Green Deal installations.

Representatives of YES Projects will be attending CIH Housing 2012 at Manchester Central on the 12th – 14th June. If you’re interested in joining the Green Deal network and want more information about ECO visit stand B16.

YES Become Pioneer Green Deal Provider

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced that Yorkshire Energy Services is to become one of its Pioneer Green Deal Providers and join a small number of companies from across the UK in the pilot programme.

Yorkshire Energy Services will play an active role in the Green Deal in providing and managing the finance needed for householders and small businesses to access effective energy saving services.

The highly anticipated Green Deal is set to launch in October 2012 and will help thousands of residents save energy through domestic installations such as insulation, central heating and renewable technologies with no upfront costs. Unlike other finance programmes, repayments on the Green Deal loan are linked to the participant’s energy bills and set at a lower rate than the money they saved on energy over a fixed period. Customers are therefore able to save money and improve their home’s efficiency without breaking the bank.

YES become a pioneer Green Deal provider

Chief Executive of Yorkshire Energy Services, William Edrich, is delighted to support Green Deal and work in partnership with DECC on the initial developments of the programme. “It is an honour to work with DECC be representing the SME’s within the Green Deal Pilot. We have over 11 years experience delivering innovative and ground breaking energy efficiency schemes like the Green Deal and look forward to demonstrating our expertise in order to shape and model an effective Green Deal process. YES work within the local community and excel in the delivery of community based work. Our ethos as a community interest company is to invest profits made back into schemes to further assist communities and are committed to supporting the local economy.”
